Impermanence
Impermanence was made possible with the generous support of the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and the Jerome Foundation. The series contains a suite of fifteen original polymer photogravures. The deluxe edition includes a handmade clamshell case as well as a letterpress printed title page, artist's statement and colophon.
Every living and non-living thing is obliged to pass through a cycle of existence:
inception, expansion, degeneration and rest.
No thing is exempt.
Each person,
beast,
our beautiful planet Earth,
even those shoes on your feet
do not escape
the constant rotation of
transformation.
For some the cycle is quite short,
a day, maybe two.
For others
the cycle may take billions of years to complete.
Some days this sequence feels like a welcome change,
other days it feels like an unbearable loss.
It is this certainty that makes our time here both
painful
and gloriously
exquisite.
